When should I schedule my child’s first visit?
We recommend your child’s first visit be scheduled when the first tooth erupts or when the child turns 1 year of age. In addition to establishing your child’s dental home, this is also an ideal time to provide guidance on brushing and oral hygiene habits, diet and nutrition, teething, any digit or pacifier habits, dental growth and development, speech/language development and injury prevention.
What can I expect during my child’s first visit?
Your child’s dental experience should be as pleasant and fun as possible. During your child’s first visit, you will first check-in with our friendly front desk staff. Next, you’ll meet Dr. Drake and the team. Your child’s health history will be discussed, followed by a visual dental exam. For children 3 years of age and younger, the first visit will often also involve a gentle toothbrush cleaning and fluoride varnish treatment. Dr. Drake and the team will also provide guidance on topics such as oral hygiene instructions and diet counseling. While it’s common for most children to be anxious for these appointments, establishing this important foundation will set your child up for future success in becoming familiar with their dental office and team.
